MICHAEL: INTERVIEW AND EXCLUSIVE TRACK STREAM
Bad Guys were one of our favourite bands. They headlined the second ever Cosmic Carnage night, it was absolutely bonkers and we were devastated when they split. However, when a great band calls it a day, usually another great band forms and here it is in the form of Michael.
Michael is PJ, Dave and Tamas from Bad Guys, along with Jamie from Henge on guitar and a new frontman called Milo. They’ve already played for us at our SMASH IT OUT all-dayer at the Windmill last month and fucking EPIC. I think the sound guy said they were his new favourite band of all time, I was very drunk though, he could have been slagging them off.
They are playing again this weekend with masked nutters, Evil Blizzard at the 100 Club, which is being promoted by the ever-consistent Baba Yaga’s Hut. Therefore, we thought it would be a great time to check in with guitarist PJ to find out more about all things Michael. We believe tickets are on the verge are selling out so please don’t fuck about with snapping one up. Here's a link for your convenience.
We also have an EXCLUSIVE stream of a track called “Mario”, a wicked demo recorded by Wayne Adams at Bear Bites Horse Studios, get some ears around it.
Hi Michael, how are you?
All Michaels are well I think. I've just been on two holidays so I feel particularly bless.
Sorry to ask such an obvious question but why are you called Michael?
It`s not so much Why? as Who?
We all know most of you were in Bad Guys, what would you say are the key differences in terms of your sound?
Less necks but more guitars, I know right? Mental..
There are more microphones, better solos and some non-guitar sounds as well but essentially good old shit-kicking-shouty-angry-man rock 'n' roll like you know and love. We also do fast and slow equally well.
Tell us about your new front man. Who the hell is he? What bands has he been in and what's his favourite film?
Milo hasn't done anything like this before, he's never fronted a rock band, but has been auditioning for one his whole life. His words are solid, his conviction fierce and he's an absolute menace on stage with his home made beer mat waistcoat.
Fav film:- Tincan Folklore (1996) apparently.
Bad Guys played with Evil Blizzard many a time, looking forward to being gigging pals again?
Evil Blizzard fans are the weird dysfunctional disciples of the Hawkwind generation (in fact one of their many bass players was in Hawkwind). I didn't know whether I was feeling hope or despair when we supported them, they seemed to love Bad Guys so we must have been doing something wrong. I don't know if they'll like Michael, I guess we'll find out.
Looking forward to playing with those guys again though, I can assure you, they are as horrible off stage as on.
Is there an album on the way?
Yes yes album on its way, that's what bands do.
We're thinking of going to this studio in Wales where Terminal Cheescake recorded, to see if they accidentally discarded any tabs of acid or Bath salts. We'll probably force Wayne Adams (Bear Bites Horse) to document the climax.
This will be well into be next year though when its released. Soz...
Are you going on tour?
A tour will inevitably follow, we got a few out of London dates in mind. See if Michael has legs in the market towns of Britain. Nothing booked yet.
Bands in your scene seem to be getting much bigger than we probably ever thought they would, playing big European festivals and selling out tours in advance. How far do you want to take this band? What are your ambitions?
We'll go until someone tells us to stop. Then we'll probably keep going until no one cares.
Any other new bands in London we should be keeping an eye on?
I'm not sure there are any new bands in London to speak of, lots of good old ones, but I know when I DO want to find out what are the hottest new bands in town I'll always log on to the Cosmic Carnage website on the internet to see what the shit`s going on.
Any last words before you piss off?
Come and experience Michael.
Tell your friends.
